Hi there…I’m so excited to introduce you to The Preserves Project! I’m looking forward to sharing my mission in life: creating and preserving amazing memories and traditions with my family. My husband Adam and I love dreaming up, planning and working hard to complete all kinds of projects and try to include our 3 kids whenever we can.
From DIY renovations around our old house to gardening, to building projects or cooking, there are always life lessons to be taught and learned while working together. Hence, The Preserves Project. My place to record and share our adventures together!
I have so many things I want to touch upon with this site, but one of the things I’m truly passionate about is cooking for my family. I am in love with the idea of feeding my family healthy, delicious meals at home. Knowing what’s in our food, how it’s been prepared, the whole family pitching in to get it on the table and gathering together to eat and talk and laugh…there’s really nothing better.
Cooking and entertaining have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. I am lucky enough to have a mom who is a retired Home Economics teacher, an amazing cook and a wealth of knowledge when it comes to all things culinary and crafty. She has taught me so much and I want to make sure that my kids learn it all too. I want them to know their way around the kitchen and be able to whip up our old family recipes. And I want them to one day know the joy of preparing and feeding their own families great meals at home.
So when it comes to our time together in the kitchen: sharing recipes old and new, passing on secrets and lessons, keeping traditions alive, having fun – those are the goals. Spending time in the kitchen can teach us so much more than just how to make food…nutrition, organization and problem-solving, patience, humilty and grace. When you get back to the basics, and decide to just embrace the chaos and crazy that comes with cooking with kids, that’s when memories are made….
I hope you will join us on the journey…I think it’s going to be a good time. To me, starting in the kitchen just seems right. That’s where people always gather, right?
